River Majesty is available year round.  All seasons are incredibly spectacular in the North Georgia Blue Ridge Mountains on the Cartecay River.
Every season has its own beauty and dazzling uniqueness in the picturesque North Georgia Blue Ridge Mountains.

"To the attentive eye, each moment of the year has its own beauty . . . it beholds, every hour, a picture which was never seen before, and which shall never be seen again."  Ralph Waldo Emerson

 SPRING SPECTACULAR

In spring, the mountains are blooming with new life.  The rhododrendrons, azaleas, laurels, dogwoods and mountain wildflowers are blooming with brilliant flowers while fragrances drift in the breeze while you view the breathtaking beauty.  Hummingbirds and butterflies visit the blossoms and the forest is alive with color, warmth and fragrances.   The forest is so beautiful with fresh green growth and abundant blossoms.  The abundant Ellijay apple orchards are a sight to behold as they are abloom with fragrant and gorgeous apple blossoms.  Experience Appalachian Spring with a spring getaway in the Appalachians. Spring in all its beauty starts early as it brings new life in March.

SUMMER SENSATIONAL

In summer, the mountains are green, lush, vibrant and beautiful.  Cooling summer showers followed by colorful rainbows are frequent.  The nights are cool with magnificent glowing firefly light show displays. Drive to the local farmstands to buy fresh Georgia grown peaches, homemade jams, pies, pastries and garden-fresh produce. Cool off in the Cartecay River at the River Majesty while taking a dip, sitting on a rock with your feet cooling in the river, drifting on a tube or on a raft, or just wading in the beautiful mountain waters. Attend the Appalachian Regional Fair in August.  Hike, take a mountain drive, a train ride, shop, explore, pan for gold, kayak, raft, tube, canoe!

FALL FANTASTIC

In the fall, the mountains are ablaze with a vivid palette of dazzling colors.  Mountain communities celebrate harvest time with festive country fairs.  Drive to the orchards and farmstands to select your fresh mountain apples grown in Ellijay.  You can even pick your own apples. Attend the Apple Pickin' Jubilee at Hillcrest Orchards in September. In October, attend the Cherry Log Festival or the Ellijay Georgia Apple Festival to buy local crafts, food, apples and homemade foods prepared with apples, of course, and listen to Apple Festival music.

Celebrate Thanksgiving Week in the grace and beauty of the North Georgia Blue Ridge Mountains.

The spectacular Orionids meteor shower can be viewed vividly without city lights the month of October and the first week of November.

WINTER WONDERLAND

In winter, the peaceful serenity of the Georgia Blue Ridge Mountains will let you relax, rest and restore your well being. Nights are crisp and cold which is a perfect temperature for a steaming hot tub soak.  Sunny days can warm up to very mild temperatures. Light up a fire in the riverside chiminea and relax while enjoying the beauty and whitewater sounds of the river by a toasty warm riverside fire.

You may be lucky and experience the stillness and pristine sparkling beauty of a snow fall in the North Georgia Blue Ridge Mountains. January and February are the best months to possibly see snow.  The snow doesn't last long but it is visually beautiful as it turns the mountain forest into a temporary winter wonderland scene.

Wildlife at Blackberry Mountain is highly visible without foliage and you will have opportunities to view the animals in their natural and protected habitat.

Choose your fresh Christmas tree in November and December at a tree farm and take your fresh tree with your memories home to decorate. Enjoy a refreshing Georgia Blue Ridge mountain vacation to escape the holiday stress. Do your Christmas shopping in the specialty stores in Ellijay and Blue Ridge. No holiday crowds and traffic problems in the mountains!

Ride the Christmas Express Train on the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway for a special visit with Santa and a festive scenic train ride through the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains.

Celebrate the Christmas season in the quiet, peaceful Blue Ridge mountains where you can truly reflect upon the meaning and joy of Christmas.

Take a  drive over to Lookout Mountain for a day of skiing at Cloudmont Ski and Golf Resort near Rock City and Ruby Falls.  Cloudmont is open daily and nightly during season when temperatures at night drop to 28 degrees to make snow.  Cloudmont is the southernmost ski area in the United States.

America is a great story, and there is a river on every page of it.

A river, though, has so many things to say that it is hard to know what it says to each of us.

Of course, now I am too old to be much of a fisherman, and now of course I usually fish the big waters alone,
although some friends think I shouldn't. Like many fly fishermen in western Montana where the summer days are
almost Arctic in length, I often do not start fishing until the cool of the evening. Then in the Arctic half-light of the
canyon, all existence fades to a being with my soul and memories and the sounds of the Big Blackfoot River and a
four-count rhythm and the hope that a fish will rise.
Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time. On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs.
I am haunted by waters.

We sat on the bank and the river went by. As always, it was making sounds to itself, and now it made sounds to us.
It would be hard to find three men sitting side by side who knew better what a river was saying.

A river sings a holy song conveying the mysterious truth that we are a river, and if we are ignorant of this natural law, we are lost."
Thomas Moore - From The Re-Enchantment of Everyday Life

I gave my heart to the mountains the minute I stood beside this river with its spray in my face and watched it thunder into foam, smooth to green glass over sunken rocks, shatter to foam again. I was fascinated by how it sped by and yet was always there; its roar shook both the earth and me.
Wallace Stegner, The Sound of Mountain Water
LOOKING GLASS RIVER
Smooth it glides upon its travel,
Here a wimple, there a gleam –
O the clean gravel!
O the smooth stream!
Sailing blossoms, silver fishes,
Paven pools as clear as air –
How a child wishes
To live down there!
We can see our coloured faces
Floating on the shaken pool
Down in cool places,
Dim and very cool;
Till a wind or water wrinkle,
Dipping marten, plumping trout,
Spreads in a twinkle
And blots all out.
See the rings pursue each other;
All below grows black as night,
Just as if mother
Had blown out the light!
Patience, children, just a minute –
See the spreading circles die,
The stream and all in it
Will clear by-and-by.
Robert Louis Stevenson, Child’s Garden of Verses
There's no music like a little river's. It plays the same tune (and that's the favourite)
Over and over again
Robert Louis Stevenson, Prince Otto.
